Evaluate questions that challenge the premise(s) of an argument, the interpretation of a data set or the suitability of a design.

TERMS

  • Evaluate - to determine the significance of by careful study

  • Evidence - anything presented to support a claim

  • Experimental question - a question that guides a testable scientific experiment

  • Explanation - a logical reason for a phenomenon

  • Hypothesis - a proposed explanation based on evidence

  • Observation - a statement about something you notice

  • Prediction - to say that an event will happen in the future

  • Question - a sentence that asks for information

  • Scientific principles - fundamental concepts that explain natural phenomenon

  • Variable - a factor that can be changed, controlled or measured

    • Independent Variable - the manipulated variable in an experiment (cause)

    • Dependent Variable - the responding variable in an experiment (effect)
