The functions and properties of natural and designed objects and systems can be inferred from their overall structure, the way their components are shaped and used, and the molecular substructures of its various materials.

TERMS

  • Molecular-level structures - locations of atoms in a molecule

  • Function - an activity or purpose for a thing

  • Properties - any traits of an object that can be measured

  • Component - a part of a larger whole

  • Shape - external form of an object

  • Purpose - the reason for which something is done or created
